New research shows that regular strength training can help you stay healthier, stronger and more independent for longer.

Well, it turns out I wasn't wrong!

Today, BBC News reported on new research published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine showing that regular strength training can significantly reduce the risk of an early death.

The study found that doing just 90 minutes to 2 hours of weight or resistance training per week can help lower the risk of death from heart disease, stroke and even neurological conditions.

For those of us who work in the fitness industry, this isn't really a surprise. Strength training doesn't just help you look better or get stronger – it helps you stay active, independent and healthier as you get older.

Why Strength Training Matters

Regular strength training can help:

✅ Improve muscle strength and endurance

✅ Improve balance and mobility

✅ Increase bone density

✅ Reduce the risk of falls and injury

✅ Improve heart health

✅ Boost mental well-being and confidence

✅ Maintain independence as you age

✅ Reduce the risk of premature death

Thinking About Getting Started?

If you've been thinking about improving your health and well-being, there's never been a better time to start.

I run four indoor group fitness classes every week throughout the year, focusing on strength, fitness and overall well-being in a welcoming and supportive environment. My sessions are ideal if you:

• Don't enjoy training in a busy gym

• Prefer exercising within a small, friendly community group

• Aren't sure what exercises you should be doing

• Want expert guidance and support

• Would like to improve your strength, fitness and confidence

I also offer small-group personal training and one-to-one coaching, tailored to your goals and fitness level.

Choosing the Right Coach

Always check an instructor's qualifications before starting any exercise programme. A good coach should be happy to discuss their experience, certifications and approach.

For example, kettlebell instruction requires specialist training and qualifications beyond standard personal training certifications.

As a Certified Advanced Personal Trainer, Certified Kettlebell Specialist, Certified Menopause Coach and Advanced Nutritional Adviser, I believe in providing safe, effective and evidence-based coaching that helps people achieve long-term results.

Ready to Take the First Step?

You don't need to be fit to start. You just need to start.

Whether you're looking to get stronger, improve your fitness, increase your confidence or simply feel better in everyday life, I'd be happy to help.
