Are You Coping with the Heat?

Stay Hydrated
With record-high temperatures reaching 36°C, it's no surprise that many of us are struggling in the heat. It also provides the perfect opportunity to remind everyone to stay hydrated.
As temperatures rise, your body needs more water. Everyone sweats (or perspires) at different rates, and for those of you who don't sweat very much, it can be difficult to recognise when you need to drink more.
Menopause and Hydration
This can be even more challenging if you're going through the menopause. As oestrogen levels decline, your body's thirst signals become less effective, meaning you may not feel thirsty even when you need fluids. This makes it even more important to drink water regularly throughout the day rather than waiting until you feel thirsty.
Before You Exercise
For those of you who have been persevering and continuing to attend my group fitness classes and personal training sessions—thank you! Please remember to bring a water bottle and a towel with you. In these temperatures, your body works much harder to keep you cool, causing you to lose fluids more quickly. By the time you start to feel light-headed, dizzy, or experience muscle cramps, you may already be dehydrated.
As I mentioned in my last newsletter, it's also a great idea to add electrolytes to your water before class or a PT session. A simple homemade option is to mix:
A pinch of salt
A squeeze of fresh lemon juice
A pint of water
It's an easy way to help replace lost electrolytes, support hydration, and boost your energy levels. After all, around 60% of the human body is made up of water, so keeping your fluid levels topped up is essential, especially during hot weather.
Keeping Classes Cool
I know the recent temperatures have made it tempting to stay at home, but I've made a few changes to help keep everyone as comfortable as possible while still enjoying their workouts.
We've moved the weights section of our classes outdoors into the shade wherever possible, making the most of the fresh air before heading back inside for the mat work. Indoors, all the doors and windows are kept open to maximise airflow and help keep the studio as cool and comfortable as possible.
Exercise doesn't just keep you fit—it also helps improve your mood, boost your energy levels, reduce stress, and maintain your routine. Even during warmer weather, keeping active safely is one of the best things you can do for both your physical and mental well-being.
Fresh Workouts for Summer
There's even more reason to come along because all of the classes have now had their summer refresh! You'll discover brand-new workouts, fresh playlists, and exciting new challenges designed to keep every class fun, motivating and effective. I hope everyone who's already experienced the new routines has been enjoying them, and I can't wait for the rest of you to give them a try!
And don't forget, every Monday throughout July, we'll be enjoying Pilates in Vale Square Gardens. Exercising outdoors, surrounded by nature and plenty of shade, is a fantastic way to start the week, and it's quickly becoming a favourite with many of you.
